BBQ season: How to avoid fines during grilling days
And how to stay safe while enjoying grilled dishes
BBQ season is one of the most anticipated times of the year for many outdoor lovers. Enjoying delicacies straight from the grill, being outdoors, embraced by the green, loved ones, and the best picnic salads– all make BBQ season special in their own way.
Still, there are a few rules to live by to enjoy this warm season to the fullest. Though true BBQ fans are always abiding by the rules to respect the environment and others, it is always valuable to refresh the memory on BBQ season do’s and don’ts.
Avoid large fines for your next BBQ session
While each state in Germany has its own regulations for outdoor BBQ activities, there are some general overlaps that are true almost everywhere. Each state’s own page and regulation can be found on their own website as listed here. It is the best way to keep up with state-specific regulations!
The general rules to remember this BBQ season are:
♨ BBQ’s in general public green spaces are prohibited unless stated otherwise (parks, beaches, lakes etc.)
♨ If the location is posing a risk for fire or may cause pollution, fines go up to 5,000€
♨ Refrain from open fire, or fire pits– do not dig pits to make fire in, and do not let BBQ materials that catch fire touch the ground directly (like charcoal)
♨ On balconies and terraces, be mindful of neighbors – choose gas or electric grills to avoid disturbing the air space around your home
♨ Make sure the space between the fire and natural resources are safe (stay away from trees, bushes etc.)
♨ Take care of the environment before, during and after grilling. Make time for proper clean up each time
These general safety rules protect both BBQ regulars and the bystanders. Enjoying the grilling season includes respecting the spaces that are shared by any community.
