Strawberry Prices in Germany Hit Seasonal Low – Now’s the Time to Stock Up
Right now, strawberries in Germany are cheaper than they’ve been all season
Good news for strawberry lovers: The price of fresh strawberries in Germany has dropped to its lowest point of the season – but that could change again very soon.
It’s peak strawberry season – and your wallet can feel it
While a kilo of German-grown strawberries cost around €8.19 at the end of April, the current average price has dropped to just €5.87, according to the Agricultural Market Information Society (AMI). In some supermarkets, 500-gram packs are now selling for under €2 – a real bargain, as market analyst Eva Würtenberger confirms.
Prices are down – but not for long
Those who buy now can save: experts predict prices will start to rise again in the second half of June. The reason? The main harvest period is drawing to a close – at least in southern Germany. In states like Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria, around 70% of the strawberry crop has already been harvested, while northern regions still have about 80% of the harvest ahead of them.
Strawberry season in full swing
Right now, local strawberries are available in abundance – fresh, high-quality, and affordable. The peak season in southern Germany ends in early July, while in the north it continues a bit longer. So if you want to enjoy regional strawberries at the best prices, now’s the time – before prices climb again and supply starts to shrink.
